Hello - I'm Maria, one of founders of Domus formosa, a UK‑based online boutique dedicated to bringing families a more intentional, elegant, and sustainable way of living with children.
Our story began with a quiet but frustrating realisation: our homes were slowly filling with plastic - bright, disposable, and short‑lived items and toys our toddlers played with for a while and then ignored. They crept into every corner, disrupting the calm we wanted for our children (and for us) and the beauty we wanted for our homes. We longed for spaces that felt more inviting, more natural, and more respectful of both our children and the environment. With a feeling of "this isn't what I pictured as a parent", we started reading about Montessori - not as a school method, but as a way of seeing a child as someone capable, right now, of dressing themselves, pouring their own water, choosing their own book. It reframed the whole house for us. The question stopped being what will keep them entertained and became what will let them do things themselves. That's the question every curated piece in this shop has to answer - pieces that truly deserved a place in a family home.

We specialise in Montessori children’s furniture and family essentials crafted exclusively in workshops across Europe, selected for their natural materials, functional design, non-toxic finishes, long‑lasting quality. Because babies put items in their mouths and toddlers climb on furniture.
We're not a marketplace. We turn down more products than we list - anything that's only decorative rather than functional, or that offers a child entertainment rather than trust, doesn't make it onto the site, regardless of how well it might sell. Every piece we offer is chosen with intention: to support independence, nurture confidence, and blend seamlessly into a refined, modern home. We believe children deserve environments that are as carefully considered as the rest of the home - spaces that invite exploration without overwhelming the senses, and that honour their innate desire to participate in daily life.
